Don’t Ignore These Heart Signals

Today’s reminder is simple but powerful: listen to your body. Some symptoms may seem minor but could be warning signs of serious health issues. Let’s break it down:
Shortness of Breath
Feeling breathless after exercise is normal. But if it happens during rest or mild activity, it could signal:
- Lung disease
- Heart problems
- Anaemia
Don’t wait. See a doctor before it worsens.
Know Your Numbers
Your health is more than how you feel, it’s also what your tests say.
Under 40? Check these at least once:
- Blood pressure
- Weight
- Blood sugar
- Creatinine, SGPT
- Lipid profile
- ECG
Over 40 or at risk? Repeat every 2 years and add:
- Echocardiogram (look for your ejection fraction, normally ≥50%)
Tip: This number isn’t fixed, it varies. Know it, track it, protect it.
Loss of Consciousness (Syncope)
Passing out isn’t always harmless. It could be:
- Heart-related
- Brain-related
- Vasovagal (usually harmless)
First step? See a cardiologist. They’ll guide you through the right tests.
Chest Pain
Never ignore chest pain—especially if it’s:
- Suddenly
- Increasing
- Central (middle of chest)
- With sweating or vomiting
Act fast. Go to the emergency room or see a cardiologist immediately.
Palpitations
Feeling your heartbeat? That’s called a palpitation. It’s common and often harmless, especially if caused by:
- Stress
- Caffeine or alcohol
- Normal rhythm (sinus rhythm)
But sometimes it’s a sign of:
- Treatable heart conditions (like atrial fibrillation or premature beats)
- Serious inherited diseases (like Brugada or long QT syndrome)
- Dangerous rhythms (like ventricular tachycardia)
Your role? Notice the symptoms. Speak up. Early action saves lives.
Final Thought
Whether you're the patient or a loved one—awareness is everything. These signs are your body’s way of asking for help. Let’s not ignore them.
