General Job Description:
A PCA’s job is to assist Nurses, Doctors in patient care in all OPD and IPD areas in carrying patients in wheelchairs, stretchers, helping Nursing service units in patients in bed, in Diagnostic units, and other service units as identified by management by ensuring patient’s safety at all time.
Key Responsibilities/Tasks:
OPD:
1) Receive patients, and guide & transport them to various locations of the hospital.
Help the discharged patient getting into the car for going home.
2) Assist to carry personal belongings of the patients.
3) Follow IPSG in patient carrying in wheelchairs, stretchers, assist patients in Nursing
station by ensuring patient safety, ID band.
Radiology:
1) Transport patients to and from Radiology
2) Deliver portable X-ray, Ultra Sound machines to IPD/ICUs.
3) Collects and transports X rays and reports between Radiology & IPD/ICUs
4) Assists with cleaning of instruments and article in Radiology under supervision of a
Radiology Technologist.
Laboratory:
1) Collects and transports samples and reports between units and Laboratory
2) Assists with cleaning of instruments and articles in Laboratory under supervision of
a Laboratory Technologist.
IPD:
1) Assist patients in settling down in bed/cabin by providing patient dress and
accessories, kit bags, ensuring toilets are clean and dry when new patient
admission.
2) Assist nurses in providing basic nursing care, shower, bath, sponge and shave
patients under supervision by a trained nurse
3) For bed ridden/vulnerable/handle with care patients, assist Nurses in reposition
patients in bed, wheelchairs, beds, taking patients to Washroom, dressing, eating
and transporting patients ensuring patient’s safety and comfortability at all times.
4) Assist to carry personal belongings of the patients.
5) Maintain professional and friendly rapport with patients, visitors, and staff
6) Assist Housekeepers in changing of bed linen as per scheduled time and as and
when required.
7) Assist Housekeepers in cleaning bed bowls, buckets, bed pans, commode chairs.
8) Clean suction bottles and tubing, wheelchairs and Stretchers.
9) Ensure that an adequate supply of clean clothing and linen is available on units and
that soiled items are removed and cleaned.
10) Transport samples, reports, specimens and fetch results, stores, CSSD items.
11) Attend quickly to the call bell of the patients
12) Help patients in mobilization.
13) Collect indented goods/stationeries from Pharmacies and general Stores as per
instructions of Nurse in charge of the concerned unit.
14) Collect and transport medical equipment and supplies as per requirement of the
concerned unit.
15) Follow Waste Segregation protocol and be careful in handling sharp wastes.
16) Performs all other tasks as required by the department.
SPECIFIC AREA WORK REQUIREMENTS
1) Bring sterilized items from CSSD
2) Collection of Blood from Blood Bank.
Safety Protocols:
1) Understand and be 100% knowledgeable about the following protocols as per EHD
and JCI guidelines –
a) Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times wherever necessary.
b) Correct hand hygiene (Handwashing and Hand rub) techniques as per protocol Respiratory hygiene,
c) Fire Safety and Extinguisher
d) Emergency Codes and Action required
e) Adheres to infection control policies and practices.
f) Aseptic precautions
g) Prevention of accidental inoculation injury
h) On the job accidents and reporting protocols.
2) Follow the additional precautions for suspected/confirmed patients of certain infectious diseases as per hospital protocol for prevention and control of infections.
To participate in the academic activities of the department and Hospital by taking part in

Education/Experience
- At least HSC
Soft Skills Requirement:
1) Be courteous and greet all patients, attendants, consultants, nurses, management staffs, colleagues, supervisors at all times by following manners –
2) Address all individuals courteously by their given name or by ‘Sir’ and ‘Madam’.
3) Avoid shouting or using improper (slang) language.
4) Knock before entering to patient room or Doctor’s chambers, management office and wait for response.
5) Good Communication skill in Bangla
6) Basic understanding of English language
