Housekeeper

General Job Description:

 A Housekeeper’s primary job is to keep the entire hospital premise neat, clean, and orderly in hygienic manner to ensure safety for patients, attendants, staffs, management and all other stakeholders avoiding spread of infection by following standard cleaning protocols. He / She should be part of the quality improvement of JCI documentation process of the hospital.

Key Responsibilities/Tasks:

1) He/she must have the clear knowledge about the following complying with JCI

Standard –

a) All details about all the cleaning chemicals used as per EHD protocol guided

by Infection Control department.

b) Purposes of various usages of the cleaning chemicals

c) Using right chemical and in right amount in right area

d) Usage of cleaning tools and machinery – floor mopping tools, single and

double water bucket system, Scrubbing Machines, buffing, Vacuum.

e) Must know HAZMAT box – cleaning chemicals to be kept in the respective

HAZMAT boxes in all IPD, OPD and office areas.

2) The jobholder is required to work in damp, dusty, & dirty areas.

3) Housekeeping working in these areas must be well aware and trained in Donning

and Doffing of PPE.

4) Must follow the right protocol of patient’s infected linen management, waste

management, bed cleaning, toilet cleaning

5) Responsible for disposal of medical and non-medical wastes, and other disposable

materials by following waste management policy strictly always.

6) Clean and organize patient’s bed/cabin after every discharge and whenever

bed/cabin is blocked for admission by following room cleaning and room making

protocols as per SOP.

7) Check all vacant rooms daily to keep fresh.

8) Clean all air vents and window glasses (within reach) in the entire hospital

periodically.

9) Report any maintenance/facility requirement immediately to Supervisor.

10) Check and do pest control daily along with Pest Control team in each respective

duty areas, inform the Housekeeping Supervisors/Seniors immediately if there is

any concern with pest control or maintenance related issues.

Safety Protocols:

 1) Understand and be 100% knowledgeable about the following protocols as per EHD and JCI guidelines –

a) Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) always wherever necessary.

b) Correct hand hygiene (Handwashing and Hand rub) techniques as per protocol Respiratory hygiene,

c) Fire Safety and Extinguisher

d) Emergency Codes and Action required

e) Adheres to infection control policies and practices.

f) Aseptic precautions

g) Prevention of accidental inoculation injury

h) On the job accidents and reporting protocols.

 2) Follow the additional precautions for suspected/confirmed patients of certain infectious diseases as per hospital protocol for prevention and control of infections.

 To participate in the academic activities of the department and Hospital by taking part in

  • Mandatory safety training
  • Prevention & Control of Infection
  • Departmental policy & Procedures
  • Trained in BLS

 Education/Experience:

  •  At least SSC

Soft Skills Requirement:

 1) Be courteous and greet all patients, attendants, consultants, nurses, management staffs, colleagues, supervisors at all times by following manners –

2) Address all individuals courteously by their given name or by ‘Sir’ and ‘Madam’.

3) Avoid shouting or using improper (slang) language.

4) Knock before entering to patient room or Doctor’s chambers, management office and wait for response.

 5) Good Communication skill in Bangla

6) Basic understanding of English language
