Professor Dr. Sheikh Mahbub-Us Sobhan completed his MBBS in 1987 and completed his DO and MS under University of Dhaka in 1992 and 2007 consecutively.
He undertook extensive training in retinal diseases and surgeries from Sankara-Nethralaya, Chennai, considered one of the top eye hospitals worldwide and the 1st ranked Centre of Excellence in Ophthalmic diseases in India.
He also underwent training in Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) and Age-Related Macular Degeneration at Aga Khan Medical University, Karachi, Pakistan in 2005.
He worked in BIRDEM from 1989 to 2023 (34 years) in different capacities in the Eye department.
While teaching at BIRDEM and Ibrahim Medical College, he managed the most challenging cases as well as referral cases of vitreoretinal diseases and cataracts along with other complicated eye conditions.
As a Professor, he helped to establish the Department of Ophthalmology at the Bangladesh Institute of Health Sciences (BIHS) Hospital from 2007-2012 and 2021-2022, which is a sister concern of BIRDEM and an enterprise of Bangladesh Diabetic Society.
As one of the pioneer Vitreo-retinal Surgeons of the country and the foremost VR surgeon of BIRDEM, he performed more than 600 Vitreo-retinal, Laser and Phaco surgeries.
Professor Dr. Sheikh Mahbub-Us Sobhan was an examiner of undergraduate/postgraduate medical examinations, with vast teaching experience at Ibrahim Medical College.
His interests include Diabetic eye diseases and Retinal Vascular diseases, Ocular Inflammations, Immunology and Neuro-ophthalmology.
