Evercare Hospital Dhaka Organizes Patient Forum to Raise Awareness of Heart Disease

When the heart stops, life stops. However, many risks and symptoms of heart disease can be identified early, helping prevent serious complications. With this message at the forefront, Evercare Hospital Dhaka organized a rally and a special patient forum to mark World Heart Day 2026. Reflecting this year’s theme, ‘Don’t Miss a Beat,’ the forum highlighted the importance of preventing heart disease, detecting it early and ensuring access to quality cardiac care for all.
The event was attended by Dr. Arif Mahmud, Group Medical Director, Evercare Hospitals, Bangladesh along with cardiologists, hospital officials and patients.
During the Patient Forum, specialist cardiologists emphasized that heart disease does not always present obvious symptoms. Symptoms such as chest pain or pressure, unusual shortness of breath, a rapid heartbeat or an irregular heartbeat should not be ignored. The need for regular health check-ups and risk assessments is particularly important for people with high blood pressure, diabetes, excess weight, a history of smoking or a family history of heart disease. Early diagnosis can significantly reduce complications and, in many cases, save lives.
Cardiologists also highlighted the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle to maintain heart health. They advised people to maintain a balanced diet, engage in regular physical activity, manage their weight, reduce stress, quit smoking and get adequate sleep. Keeping blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels under control was also emphasized as an important part of heart disease prevention and care.
The heart health of mothers and children was another key focus of the discussion. They underscored congenital heart diseases can be prevented by MMR vaccination 3 months before planned pregnancy, controlling diabetes mellitus, hypertension & prohibiting the teratogenic medication during pregnancy. Alongside appropriate medical care during pregnancy and ensuring safe motherhood, the specialists highlighted the importance of fetal echocardiography, where appropriate, for the early detection of congenital heart conditions. Parents were also encouraged to remain aware of the risks of heart disease in children and the importance of early diagnosis. Fast breathing since birth, poor weight gain, bluish discoloration of skin, repeated pneumonia can be the sign and symptoms of congenital heart disease.
The forum also provided an opportunity for patients to engage directly with specialist cardiologists. Patients raised questions about heart disease, treatment, lifestyle and associated risks, and received guidance from the experts. The cardiologists noted that travelling abroad is not the only option for advanced and world-class cardiac care, as Bangladesh now offers access to advanced cardiac treatment facilities.
As part of its World Heart Day awareness initiatives, Evercare Hospital Dhaka also conducted free ECG campaigns at various corporate offices and universities. These initiatives aimed to raise awareness about heart disease risks, encourage early identification of potential cardiac conditions and highlight the importance of regular health check-ups.
Evercare Hospital Dhaka has developed a comprehensive cardiac care system through its specialized services, including Clinical & Interventional Cardiology, Clinical & Interventional Pediatric Cardiology, Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery, and Heart Failure & Arrhythmia. With advanced technology, specialist cardiologists and an integrated approach to care, the hospital continues to work towards raising awareness about heart disease while supporting timely diagnosis and advanced treatment.
The message of World Heart Day remains clear: when it comes to heart health, waiting is not an option—awareness can be the first step towards saving a life.
