Scientific Discussion on Metabolic Surgery Held at Evercare Hospital Dhaka

Evercare Hospital Dhaka successfully organized a scientific discussion titled “Comprehensive Approach to Metabolic Surgery” recently at its auditorium, bringing together leading endocrinologists, surgeons and healthcare professionals to exchange insights on advanced metabolic and bariatric care.

The session commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Arif Mahmud, Group Medical Director, Evercare Hospitals, Bangladesh who emphasized on the growing importance of a multidisciplinary strategy in addressing obesity and metabolic disorders in Bangladesh. 

The scientific program featured a presentation by the Bangladesh Endocrine Society (BES), delivered by Dr. Afsar Ahammed, Associate Professor (OSD, DGHS), PhD Researcher, Department of Endocrinology, BMU, and Organizing Secretary & Member Secretary of the Obesity Taskforce, BES. This was followed by an in-depth presentation from the Bariatric Surgery Team at Evercare Hospital Dhaka, led by Prof. (Dr.) S. M. Abu Zafar, Senior Consultant, General & Laparoscopic Surgery, and Dr. Mohammad Farid Hossein, Senior Consultant, General & Laparoscopic Surgery, focusing on evidence-based practices, patient selection, surgical advancements, and long-term metabolic outcomes.

The session was moderated by Dr. Ahsanul Haq Amin, Senior Consultant, Diabetology & Endocrinology Department, Evercare Hospital Dhaka, who guided the discussion and ensured an interactive exchange between the panelists and the audience.

The program also included addresses from distinguished guests, with Prof. Faruq Pathan, Director (Academy) at BIRDEM and Chief Patron of the Bangladesh Endocrine Society, delivering the chief guest speech, and Dr. Faria Afsana, Associate Professor and Head of the Endocrinology Department at BIRDEM and President of the Bangladesh Endocrine Society, presiding as chairperson.

A dynamic panel discussion followed, where renowned experts shared perspectives and responded to audience queries. The panelists included Prof. Muhammad Hafizur Rahman, Senior Consultant, Endocrinology Department, Continental Hospital, Immediate Past President, BES; Dr. Shahjada Selim, Associate Professor, Department of Endocrinology, BMU, President Elect, BES; Prof. Dr. Abdul Mannan Sarker, Coordinator & Senior Consultant, Diabetology & Endocrinology, Evercare Hospital Dhaka; Dr. M. Saifuddin, Associate Professor, Department of Endocrinology, DMCH, General Secretary, BES.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Tahniyah Haq, Associate Professor, Department of Endocrinology, BMU, Scientific Secretary & Convenor, Obesity Taskforce, BES, expressing gratitude to the distinguished guests, speakers and participants for their valuable contributions.
