•Prof. Dr. Ghulam Kawnayn is a distinguished neurologist and academic leader renowned for his expertise in stroke care, neurosonology, and neurological research. Graduating with an MBBS from Sir Salimullah Medical College, he advanced his credentials with an FCPS in Medicine and FCPS in Neurology  from the Bangladesh College of Physicians & Surgeons, alongside a Clinical Fellowship in Stroke & Neurosonology from the National University Hospital, Singapore .

•Currently serving as Head of Neurology, Director of the Stroke Program, and Professor of Medicine at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Chattogram and Army Medical College, Dr. Kawnayn oversees acute stroke management, leads neurosonology labs, and mentors’ neurology residents. His career spans pivotal roles at CMH Dhaka, where he established stroke care protocols. He participated in the GLORIA-AF global registry and clot buster phase 3 trials in Singapore.

•A prolific researcher, Dr. Kawnayn has authored 18+ peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals such as Cureus and Expert Review of Neurotherapeutics. His groundbreaking studies on low-dose vs. standard-dose tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) for ischemic stroke, reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome, and carotid plaque dynamics have shaped evidence-based neurology practices. He also documented rare cases, including Moyamoya disease and swallowing apraxia due to precentral gyrus infarcts, enhancing understanding of complex neurological disorders.

•Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Kawnayn excels in academia, having trained medical students at the Armed Forces Medical College and integrated advanced neuroimaging techniques—such as transcranial Doppler—into routine care. His procedural expertise includes lumbar punctures, extracranial duplex studies, neurophysiological assessments, and transcranial Doppler evaluations. His leadership during humanitarian missions in Liberia and crisis response efforts in Bangladesh further underscores his commitment to equitable healthcare.
