Dr. Farzana Shumy

Dr. Farzana Shumy completed her MBBS from the University of Dhaka in 2005, followed by FCPS in Internal Medicine from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2013. She obtained her MRCP (UK) in 2016 and completed her MD in Rheumatology from Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) in 2019.
She achieved APLAR: Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology Congress Fellowship in 2023 and completed her Fellowship in translational research from Keio University Japan in 2024. She also completed the EULAR European Certificate of Rheumatology in 2023. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and the American College of Rheumatology.
Dr. Shumy has served as a consultant in Rheumatology at BRB Hospital and as an Associate Consultant in Rheumatology and Internal Medicine at Square Hospitals Ltd. since October 2020. She previously underwent rigorous clinical training in Rheumatology at BSMMU (2016–2020) and has additional experience in Internal Medicine at multiple tertiary hospitals including BMU, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, and Sir Salimullah Medical College.
She is trained and experienced in doing musculoskeletal ultrasound and capillaroscopy.
Dr. Shumy’s research interests include vasculitis, Takayasu arteritis, and translational research.
She has presented her work at leading international rheumatology congresses including APLAR, JCR and the American College of Rheumatology.
As a peer reviewer for journals such as BMJ Case Reports and Tropical Doctor, IJRD, she contributes to academic publishing. She is also currently working as a member of Ethical committee in ICCDR,B.
Dr. Shumy has authored and co-authored over 30 publications in peer-reviewed national and international journals with more than a hundred citations.
