Evercare Hospital Chattogram Marks Major Cancer Care Milestone with 2,500+ Radiation Therapy Patients and Six Successful Bone Marrow Transplants
Evercare Hospital Chattogram has achieved a significant milestone in providing advanced cancer care to patients in Chattogram and surrounding regions. On the occasion of World Radiotherapy Awareness Day, Evercare Hospital Chattogram organized a press meet highlighting the achievements and progress of its radiation therapy services. Since the launch of its Comprehensive Cancer Care Center in June 2023, the hospital has provided radiation therapy to more than 2,500 cancer patients. During the same period, the hospital has also successfully completed six bone marrow transplants.

Radiotherapy is an important component of cancer treatment. Approximately 60 percent of cancer patients require radiotherapy at some stage of their treatment, while around 40 percent of patients can achieve disease control and return to a normal life with appropriate radiotherapy. Therefore, ensuring access to modern and precise radiation therapy has become an integral part of comprehensive cancer care. Over the past three years, more than 2,500 patients have received this service at Evercare Hospital Chattogram’s Comprehensive Cancer Care Center.

For many years, cancer patients from Chattogram and neighboring districts had to travel to Dhaka or abroad to access advanced cancer treatment. With the aim of changing this reality, Evercare Hospital Chattogram launched the region’s first and only Comprehensive Cancer Care Center in June 2023. The center currently provides integrated services in Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Hematology, Bone Marrow Transplantation, and Palliative Care.

Radiation therapy at the center is planned according to each patient’s type and location of cancer and individual treatment requirements. Depending on clinical needs, patients have access to advanced radiation techniques including IMRT, VMAT, hypo fractionated radiotherapy, Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT), and Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS). In addition, the hospital provides specialized hematology and bone marrow transplant services for patients suffering from complex blood disorders and cancers.

Dr. Arif Mahmud, Group Medical Director of Evercare Hospitals, Bangladesh, said, “Alongside advanced technology, a skilled and integrated medical team plays a vital role in cancer care. Our primary goal is to ensure safe and high-quality treatment for our patients.”

Speaking at the press meet, Professor Dr. Sazzad Mohammad Yusuff, Visiting Senior Consultant, Medical & Radiation Oncology said, “Our primary goal is to create access to advanced cancer treatment right here in Chattogram. Being able to provide radiation therapy to more than 2,500 patients is an important achievement toward realizing that goal.”

Dr. Tanvir Ahmed, Consultant & Coordinator, Radiotherapy Service said, “In cancer treatment, coordinated care involving multiple specialists according to the individual needs of each patient is essential. Our center is committed to ensuring this integrated approach to care.”

Dr. Hasan Shahriar Kabir, Medical Services Director of Evercare Hospital Chattogram, said, “The integration of advanced technology and multidisciplinary expertise is extremely important in cancer treatment. Evercare Chattogram has created an opportunity for patients to receive such comprehensive and coordinated care.”

Also present at the event were Dr. Bhaskar Chakroborty, Visiting Consultant, Medical & Radiation Oncology; Dr. Hasnina Akter, Consultant, Medical & Radiation Oncology; Dr. Nayan Bhowmik, Attending Consultant, Medical & Radiation Oncology; and Dr. Masba Uddin Chowdhury, Consultant, Hematology & BMT Center, Cancer Care Center.

Over the past three years, Evercare Hospital Chattogram’s Comprehensive Cancer Care Center has brought advanced cancer treatment closer to the people of Chattogram and surrounding regions. The hospital authorities stated that initiatives will continue to expand the scope of cancer care through advanced technology, specialist physicians, and integrated treatment services in the future.
