10th Anniversary of the Pediatric Cardiology Department

Evercare Hospital Chattogram today organized a social awareness event to mark the 10th anniversary of the Pediatric Cardiology Department of Evercare Hospitals, Bangladesh (Dhaka and Chattogram). The event highlighted the department’s decade-long experience in providing specialized care for children with heart conditions.

During the event, Dr. Tahera Nazrin, Founder, Coordinator and Senior Consultant, Pediatric Cardiology Department, Evercare Hospitals, Bangladesh (Dhaka and Chattogram), discussed childhood heart diseases, different cardiac conditions, their symptoms, diagnosis, and the importance of timely treatment.

Approximately 8 to 10 out of every 1,000 children are born with congenital heart disease. While some heart conditions show symptoms immediately after birth, others may become apparent as the child grows. In some cases, children may have heart disease without showing any obvious symptoms. Experts advise parents to take symptoms such as fatigue while breastfeeding or eating, excessive sweating, breathing difficulties, recurrent chest infections, poor weight gain, getting tired easily, or bluish discoloration of the lips and body seriously.

Delayed treatment of childhood heart disease can, in some cases, lead to complications. On the other hand, timely diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and regular follow-up can enable many children to lead normal lives. Therefore, awareness among parents about the possible signs of heart disease and seeking medical advice promptly when necessary are essential.

Over the past 10 years, our department has successfully treated more than 200 children through device closure procedures. With timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment, many children can return to healthy and normal lives. Fetal echocardiography before the birth of a child and MMR vaccination before pregnancy are particularly important in preventing congenital heart disease.”

Over the past decade, the Pediatric Cardiology Department of Evercare Hospitals, Bangladesh has been providing specialized diagnostic and treatment services for children with congenital heart diseases and other cardiac conditions.
