Evercare Hospital Chattogram Successfully Performs First ERCP to Remove Bile Duct Stones
Evercare Hospital Chattogram has successfully performed its first Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) procedure to remove stones from the bile duct. The complex procedure was successfully carried out by Dr. Mushfiqul Abrar, Associate Consultant, Department of Hepatology, along with his medical team.

A 59-year-old woman was admitted to Evercare Hospital Chattogram with jaundice, fever, and abdominal pain. Following detailed investigations, doctors confirmed the presence of stones and pus in her bile duct.

The patient had also experienced a cardiac condition approximately one month before admission. As her condition had not improved and she had developed a new medical complication, she was brought to Evercare Hospital Chattogram for specialized treatment.

Considering her overall health condition and the associated cardiac risk, a medical board involving a senior cardiologist was consulted. Following discussions with the patient's family and with their consent, the medical team decided to perform ERCP under the supervision of Dr. Mushfiqul Abrar, despite the procedure being considered high-risk in this clinical context.

Explaining the patient's condition, Dr. Mushfiqul Abrar said that the combination of jaundice, fever, and abdominal pain is medically known as Charcot's triad. This combination can indicate an infection of the bile ducts, known as acute cholangitis, which may require urgent removal or drainage of stones and infected material from the bile duct.

ERCP is an advanced endoscopic procedure used to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the bile ducts and pancreatic ducts. It can be used to remove bile duct stones, relieve obstruction, and provide drainage when infection or blockage is present.

The successful management of this high-risk case highlights the importance of timely diagnosis, multidisciplinary decision-making, advanced endoscopic expertise, and coordinated cardiac and hepatology care in managing complex patients at Evercare Hospital Chattogram.
