Thank you for coming in today for blond donation. This information sheet explains How you can help us make the donation process safe for yourself and patients who might receive your blood. Please read this information before you donate and if you have any questions now or at any time during donation, please ask blood center staff.
Accuracy and honesty are essential:
Your complete honesty in answering all questions is very important for the safety of patients who receive your blood.
Blood donation process:
To determine if you are eligible to donate we will ask questions.
Age: 18-60 y
Weight: 50 kg or more
Hemoglobin: 12.5 gm/dl (Male)
12.0 gm/dl (Female)
Your health, travel and medication history would be asked
Questions would be asked to see if you might be at risk for Hepatitis, HIV on AIDS Your blood pressure, body weight and hemoglobin level in your blood would be checked.
• If you are eligible to donate, we will cleanse your arm with (iodine/alcohol). If you are allergic to iodine, please tell us
• New, sterile, disposable needle would be used to collect your blood
• Sexual contact my spread contagious diseases like HIV, therefore you would be asked about safe sex practice
Fore apheresis donation :
Do not donate if you have the following :
• Have AIDS or have ever had a positive HIV test
• Male donor who has had sexual contact with another male
• Male / female donor, have taken money, drugs or other payment for sex
• Have had syphilis or Gonorrhea in the past 12 months.
Have any of the following conditions that can be signs/symptoms of HIV/AIDS
• Unexplained weight loss on night sweats
• Blue or purple spots in your mouth
• Swollen lymph nodes for more than one month Cough that won't go
• away/shortness of breath
• Diarrhea that won't go away
• Fever
• Have diabetes and on insulin
• Pregnancy, lactation, during menstrual period
Remember that you can give HIV/AIDS on HBV or HCV to someone else through blood transfusion even if you feel well and have a negative test for HIV or HBV or HCV.
To protect patients and to ensure safe blood, your blood is tested for Hepatitis B,C, HIV, malaria and syphilis. You will be notified and asked to & come to the Transfusion Medicine Department for collecting your report if any of the test results comes positive.
Post-donation instructions:
• Drink one liter more fluid than your usual
• Exercise, outdoor sports and driving should be avoided on the day of donation
• Please take care of your arm from which blood is donated as per instructions given by blood center staff.
• Nutritious and iron rich food should be taken
• Avoid alcohol before and unto 24 hours after donation.
• Avoid smoking before and unto one hour donation.
• Avoid heavy meal before and after donation.
Evercare Hospital Chattogram Transfusion Medicine Department (Blond Bank) is a place for the following facilities:
1. Blood grouping: Done by Column Agglutination Technique using Gel Card Both forward (typing of RBC) and reverse (typing of Plasma) grouping done.
2. Solving ABO discrepancy/Blood group confirmation
3. Detection of A1, A2 As blood group
4. Detection of Bombay blood group
5. Detection of weak D antigen by D4 test
6. Detection of anti-D antibody and titration
7. Rhesus phenotyping and detection of probable Rhesus Genotype.
8. Detection of allo-antibody to RBC by Indirect Coombs test Method

12. Finding Compatible blood unit for multitransfused patients who has developed red cell allo- antibody

E. Cryo-poor plasma (140-180ml)
• Prepared from one unit FFP

F. Platelet Concentrate/Random Donor Platelet (RDP) (40-60 ml)
• Prepared from one unit donated blood
• Storage temperature: 20 to 24°C with continuous agitation in incubator
• Shelf life: 5 days

IMPORTANT POINTS ABOUT TESTS/PROCEDURES/SURGERIES, YOUR REPORTS & BILLING ENQUIRIES
- Tests/Investigations:
- To schedule a test/investigation, please call the relevant OPD front desks.
- Your lab investigation samples are to be deposited in the Sample Collection Room located in Level-3, which is open on working days (Saturday-Thursday) from 8.00 am to 8:00 pm, and on Fridays and holidays from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
- Your investigation reports can be collected from Report Delivery Room by showing the receipt of payment. The hospital shall not be responsible for reports not collected within 30 days after the tests were done. Report Delivery Room is also located in level-1, and is open on working days (Saturday-Thursday) from 8.00 am to 8:30 pm, and on Fridays and holidays from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
- You will not be able to collect your investigation reports without your receipt of payment. If you have lost your receipt, you may collect a duplicate copy from our Billing Executives (Front Desk, OPD- Level-2,3).
- You can request duplicate copy of your investigation reports from the Report Delivery Room, inclusive of BDT 100 additional charge.

- In-patient Reports
- A Discharge Summary is provided to a patient upon his/her discharge from the hospital. A discharge summary is a summary of the events during hospitalization of the patient. It outlines the patient’s chief complaint, the diagnostic findings, the therapy administered and the patient’s response to it, and recommendations on discharge.
