Video EEG: A Reliable Test for Brain and Nerve Disorders

Video EEG (Video Electroencephalogram) is an advanced diagnostic test that records the brain’s electrical activity while simultaneously capturing video. Unlike standard EEG, this method allows doctors to observe brain wave changes in relation to physical actions, behaviors, or specific episodes.

Why is Video EEG done?

  • Epilepsy diagnosis – Helps identify seizure types and which part of the brain is involved.

  • Sleep disorder evaluation – Detects abnormal brain activity during sleep.

  • Brain tumor or disease detection – Changes in brain function can indicate tumors or other conditions.

  • Head injury assessment – Determines if trauma has caused changes in brain activity.

How is the test performed?
The process is similar to a regular EEG. Special electrodes are placed on the scalp to measure brain signals, while a video camera records facial expressions, eye movements, and body activity.

Benefits of Video EEG

  • Provides detailed brain activity information

  • Improves diagnostic accuracy for epilepsy and neurological conditions

  • Helps doctors plan effective treatment strategies

Before the test

  • Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully

  • Wash your hair and avoid oils, gels, or creams

  • Avoid coffee, tea, or other caffeinated drinks before the test

  • Consult your doctor about any medications you are taking

After the test
You may feel mild discomfort or slight headache for a short time, but this usually resolves quickly.

Important note: Video EEG is a specialized neurological test. Always consult a neurologist before undergoing this procedure to ensure it is appropriate for your condition.
